If you or you and your family are frequent travelers, you want to make sure that your health insurance covers you when you are out of town. There are local networks and national networks. As a frequent traveler, you want to make sure your health insurance plan offers a national network of doctors to be covered anywhere in the country.

Most companies offer local networks and national networks. PPO’s (Preferred Provider Organization) primarily offer national network coverage.  A PPO has a network of doctors that are members of the network.  When you chose a doctor who is a member, you receive higher in-network benefits than if you chose a doctor who is not a part of the network. You will still be covered out of network, but will be responsible for a larger percentage of the medical expenses.
